Kitchen Assistant: Job Posting

Position Summary

 

As the Kitchen Assistant (KA) at Phipps Bakery Café, you are responsible to support the production team by performing any general duties required to maintain efficient and smooth operations.  You are also responsible to aid the retail team in maintaining a clean and pleasant working environment, and to ensure the retail store is replenished at all times with the necessary packaging items to carry on daily business.

Your role reports directly to the General Manager (GM) of Phipps Bakery Café, but is required to take direction and work closely with the Kitchen Manager as set forth by the responsibilities below.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for a range of tasks including:

A. Production Support

  • production: light baking and/or prep work (cutting, chopping, mixing, slicing etc.) in the kitchen
  • wrapping and packaging production items as assigned by the Kitchen Manager
  • organizing areas where necessary (i.e. shelves over pot washing area)
  • adhering to all policies and procedures, food standards, and health and safety standards as set forth in the kitchen and retail environments
  • custodial duties (dishwashing, floors, appliances, countertops etc.)
  • regular garbage collection and disposal
  • maintaining recycling or buckets for Mayfield
  • other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

 

B. Retail Support

  • placement of the packaged goods as per the General Manager
  • restocking of retail supplies (bags, wrapping etc.)
  • custodial duties (floors, countertops, tables, display cases, shelving units etc.)
  • cleaning and stocking of washrooms, neighbouring areas and stairs
  • regular cleaning and maintenance of stock room under the direction of the GM
  • regular inspection and cleaning of external surfaces and areas (windows, ledges, sweeping)

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • minimum one year working experience in a bakery or café environment
  • good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with other team members
  • a passion and ability for anticipating needs, taking initiative and acting independently
  • a “can do attitude”
  • baking experience considered an asset
