At Phipps we love everything about great desserts and food. We love to make it. We love to eat it. We love to savour it. And we especially love the pleasure that it gives to all our customers. Selling good food is not just business for us—it’s our way of expressing what we stand for and our long time commitment to our customers.
It’s not about me.
I would love to be able to say that Phipps Bakery Café is all about me but I am but a small part of this energetic group of dedicated bakers, food lovers and caring individuals who are committed to making and selling the best-tasting, desserts and food that we can.
Only the real thing.
The decision was made long ago to produce a fresh perishable product without the addition of artificial preservatives. Our products are always all-natural ,no mixes or additives, and all made from scratch right here at the little bakery on Eglinton.
Giving back.
Having a business is a huge responsibility. Not just for obvious reasons but because of our responsibility to our customers and our community; our responsibility to providing a happy work environment and improving the quality of life for our employees; and our responsibility to preserve our precious environment. We are very proud of our principles, our passions and the positive impact we try to make.
What is Phipps ?
That question comes up almost every day. Phipps is really a warm, welcoming and wonderful place to go. The aromas are breathtaking, the food is made only from real ingredients –no mixes or additives and everything is made from scratch with heart and hand.
What was Phipps?
In 2005 the company went through a major reorganizing. The wholesale and retail businesses were both at a point where they needed nurturing and lots of one-on- one to enable them to grow. As our business interests differed, and for the sake of the future of the company and our reputation, we made the difficult decision to separate the wholesale and the retail facets of the company. Today, because of this major but necessary change, both the retail and the wholesale are thriving once again and life is good.
Accolades.
Over the years we have enjoyed the recognition that a good product can
receive with awards and the press but honestly the best accolades come from the customers that let us know just how much they enjoy both our products and their visit to the cafe.
The journey.
Phipps started in 1986 in a small bakery in Cabbagetown. In 1990 the decision was made to move onto Eglinton Avenue where there was a lot more room to bake and have a small eat- in area. Ten years later it was time to take the next step and open a larger facility. At that same time the retail was expanded to include more seating and offer more savoury items. Most recently the kitchen at the back of the café was opened up so we could really get cooking and brought more of the baking out to the front window for all to enjoy.
