Position Summary

As the Kitchen Manager, you will play a key role in all aspects of both production and management of our Bakery and Savoury teams.  Your success will have a direct impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of operations and production for the company. 

In your role, you will have the opportunity to employ your experience to manage a team of skilled bakers and cooks, as well as remaining actively involved in the actual production of all our sweets and savouries. 

You will also act as the point of contact for the kitchen to provide assistance and support to the General Manager and Owner where necessary.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks that include:

  • overseeing and management of all kitchen production and staff (bakery and savoury) to supply front end retail store and wholesale sales
  • prepping, making, baking, rolling, traying, finishing, batters as necessary
  • overseeing the stocking (and restocking) of retail inventory to maintain fresh and full product at all times; sweets and savoury both fresh and frozen
  • production planning in advance of upcoming holidays and events
  • supervising and managing all lunch preparations
  • maintaining kitchen supply inventory; monitoring, ordering, inspecting, receiving
  • developing good working relationships with all vendors and suppliers
  • participating in hiring, training, reviewing and scheduling of kitchen staff where necessary
  • supporting the development of training tools for kitchen staff (checklists, recipes etc.)
  • liaising regularly with the General Manager to maintain smooth operations
  • contributing to new product development, recipe implementation and menus with Owner and/or General Manager
  • supervising the cleanliness and good working order of entire kitchen and all appliances
  • ensuring all health and safety standards are adhered to and enforced at all times
  • applying strong communications skills and creativity to benefit the development of staff/product
  • other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications and Skills

With the understanding that each candidate will have greater strengths in different areas, we are looking for a mix of the following skills and experience:

  • minimum three years experience in a similar role for a small, fast paced company
  • proven ability to managing a staff of approximately 10 and direct work efforts effectively
  • strong time management and organizational skills
  • strong communication skills (both written and verbal) including an ability to interact and communicate effectively with staff with confidence and tact
  • a passion and ability for anticipating needs, taking initiative and acting independently
  • a “can do attitude”
  • post secondary certificate in hospitality considered an asset
